Afghan assets would not be transferred until the courts make a ruling: White House

by Aamaj News

The White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, yesterday in a press conference answered related questions to decision of Joe Biden on Afghan frozen assets.

Ms. Psaki added that courts must make decisions about the funds.

The White House press secretary emphasized that president Biden tried to enable certain US–based assets belonging to Afghanistan’s central bank to be used to benefit the Afghan people.

She said otherwise the money would have been held.

Psaki added that many U.S. victims of terrorism, including the relatives of victims who died in the September 11  terrorist attacks have brought claims against the Taliban and are pursuing these assets in federal court.

Biden’s executive order on $7 billion of Afghan frozen assets elicited lots of reactions.
