The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan [UNAMA] expressing its concern regarding the arrest of Matiullah Wesa, head of Pen Path institution said that the Taliban must clarify his whereabouts, and the reasons for his arrest.
“UNAMA calls on the de facto authorities to clarify his whereabouts, the reasons for his arrest and to ensure his access to legal representation and contact with family,”UNAMA tweeted.
On the other hand, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, said that he was alarmed by reports regarding the arrest of Mr. Wesa.
“His safety is paramount & all his legal rights must be respected,” Bennett said.
He also called for immediate release of Mr. Wesa.
The news comes as the Taliban had arrested Rasuol Parsa, one of the renowned writers in Afghanistan few weeks ago, and had tortured him.
It is mentionable that there is no information available regarding Zakeria Usuli, a famous Panjshiri writer and Musa Shahin, a musician who were detained by Taliban.
