The US Treasury Department: Intl banks can transfer money to AFG for humanitarian purposes

by Aamaj News

Reuters reported that the US Treasury Department said to international banks that they can transfer money to Afghanistan for humanitarian purposes, and aid groups are allowed to pay teachers and healthcare workers at state-run institutions without fear of breaching sanctions on the Taliban.

The U.S. Treasury Department also issued guidance on sanctions exemptions in September and December of 2021 for humanitarian work in Afghanistan.

But international banks have been wary of transferring money to Afghansitan.

After Taliban’s domination the US sanctioned their new government.

Additionally, the US froze about $10 billion of Afghan assets, which led to unprecedented poverty and hunger in Afghanistan.
