Mike Waltz, a Republican member of the US Representatives House, stated that Thomas West, the US special representative for Afghanistan affairs, intends to “normalize terrorists” by praising the Taliban for fighting poppy cultivation.
He said that the Biden administration praises the Taliban while this group oppresses people and shelters “terrorists” in Afghanistan.
The reaction of this member of the American Congress is based on the report of a British institute about the reduction of poppy cultivation in Helmand. Thomas West called the claim of this institute “credible and significant” on Wednesday.
West tweeted that regional and abroad countries have common interests in a drug-free Afghanistan.
“The Biden Administration is lavishing praise on the Taliban for cracking down on poppy production while they repress innocents and harbor terrorists at the same time”, Waltz added.
The ALCIS Institute recently in a report claimed that poppy cultivation in Helmand, the world’s biggest opium-producing center, “has decreased by 99 percent.”
