The U.N. Secretary-General’s special representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, in Taliban’s one-day economic conference said that humanitarian assistance is a temporary solution, Afghanistan’s economic problems need to be resolved fundamentally.
Lyons said that half of Afghanistan’s population are facing poverty and hunger, and malnutrition threatens the lives of more than a million children.
She added that women and girls play a vital role in growing of economy, and the international community also urges the involvement of women in economic activities.
Lyons also urged that sanctions must be lifted up and Afghan assets must be released.
After Taliban’s domination, the US froze more than $9.5 billion, and put conditions to unfreeze it.
