UN: 19 million people are facing hunger in Afghanistan

Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations said that 19 million people are facing hunger in Afghanistan and among them 6.6 million people are in urgent need.

Mr. Griffiths in an interview with CGTN said that humanitarian assistance cannot solve the problem in Afghanistan.

He said that the economy, banking system and basic services must be improved in Afghanistan.

He also emphasized that girls’ schools above grade sixth must be reopened, and the women’s rights must be observed.

The news came after Taliban’s domination in Afghanistan people are facing humanitarian crisis and economic one.
