President of Tajikistan expresses concern about upsurge of “terrorist threats” on border of Afghanistan

Emomali Rahmon, the president of Tajikistan, has expressed concern about the upsurge in terrorist threats and drug trafficking on the border with Afghanistan.

The president of Tajikistan conveyed these concerns yesterday September 14 at the fifth meeting of the heads of the Central Asian countries, which was held in Dushanbe.

The Sputnik News quoted Emomali Rahmon saying: “There are continuous attempts for terrorists and smugglers to cross the border of Afghanistan into the territory of Tajikistan, and recently on Independence Day the Jamaat Ansarullah group had been infiltrated to carry out terrorist attacks in the city of Dushanbe and other areas which neutralized”.

Referring to the neutralization of Jamaat Ansarullah’s actions, Emomali Rahmon said: “Tajikistan is worried about the rise of terrorist threats originating from Afghanistan”.

He further added that after the Taliban regime took control of Afghanistan, the amount of drug smuggling from this country to Tajikistan increased, and in 2022, five tons of drugs were seized in this country.

The meeting of the heads of the Central Asian countries, which is held to expand cooperation in the fields of trade, security, and economy, is one of the most important political events in these countries.

In this meeting, dozens of important agreements regarding transit, trade, border protection, and dealing with terrorist threats will be signed between these countries.

The terrorist organizations Jamaat Ansarullah and Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, which work against the government of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, these two groups are considered to be long-time allies and supporters of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

These statements are made while the Taliban group claims to establish security, control drugs, and protect the borders of Afghanistan; But Afghanistan’s neighbors have complained about the increase in security threats and the spread of drug trafficking in the last two years.
