The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) in its latest report said that the humanitarian conditions have deteriorated in Afghanistan since Taliban’s domination.
SIGAR added that 70% of families in Afghanistan cannot afford to obtain sufficient food.
According to this report drought and war in Ukraine have had their impact on prices of food and fuel, as well as deteriorate humanitarian conditions in Afghanistan.
SIGAR quoting the US State Department’s Humanitarian Information Unit stated that since the Taliban takeover in August 2021, humanitarian conditions have deteriorated with over 24.4 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.
According to the report the figure was 18.4 million in 2021.
After Taliban’s domination the level of poverty, unemployment and hunger has increased unprecedentedly.
In a part of the report SIGAR has pointed to Taliban’s behavior towards media and arrest of journalists. According to the report, Taliban officials continue to impose restrictions on media.
While after the Taliban being criticized by media defending institutions and journalists, their spokesman, Zabihuallah Mujahid, on “World Press Freedom Day” said that there is not any journalist in their prisons, and their government supports the media.
The report citing the US Department of Defense said that the major parts of the ammunition which is worth $18,600,000,000 and were given to Afghan forces since 2001 has been destroyed during the war.
The report quoting the Taliban air force commander and former Afghan Air Force (AAF) personnel said that about 43 thousand of that forces including 33 pilots have joined the Taliban.
SIGAR added that a limited 81 helicopters including 6 Blackhawks are working right now in Kabul military airport.
