Fatima Payman is the first hijab-wearing Afghan-Australian woman who could enter the parliament of Australia.
She was the nominee of labor party.
Anthony Albanese, prime minister of Australia congratulated her success.
Payman, 27, was born in Afghanistan. In 2003 while she was 8 years old entered Australia with her mother, three sisters and a brother.
Her father had entered Australia by a boat back in 1999.
