It seems that the EU is looking for a political system which is the result of a Loya Jirga -“great council”- so that the Taliban government be able to obtain recognition.
Accordingly the EU special envoy for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, after visiting some of Taliban’s ministers and former president, Hamid Karzai, went to Pakistan and met some top officials of this country, in particular foreign minister of Pakistan, Hina Rabbani Khar, and Sadiq Khan and discussed the situation in Afghanistan.
Foreign ministry of Pakistan said that both sides shared their perspectives and concerns on the latest situation in Afghanistan, and emphasized the importance of international coordination to strengthen stability in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the EU special envoy said that they discussed the issues as tackling problems in Afghanistan, specially security, a functioning economy, inclusive government and human rights.
Niklasson added that he discussed the issues with women rights activists and diplomats in Kabul as well.
But people in the know and experts believe that any decision without considering the requirements of the situation and holding a so-called Loya Jirga cannot solve the problem in Afghanistan. They believe the only solution is the will of people and a transparent election.
