Nai (Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan) reacting to detention of TOLO News employees expressed its concern and releasing a statement said, “whatever happened to TOLO News employees indicate clear violation of Mass Media Law and journalism principle.”
Nai reiterated that the detention of TOLO News employees is at odds with Taliban’s commitment.
The statement added that detention of journalists while took place that the Afghanistan Journalists and Media Institution Federation celebrated the National Journalists day.
“It is mentioning the word that Zabihullah Mujahid the deputy of ministry of information and culture has emphasized to performing of Mass Media Law,” Nai said.
This institution called on Taliban goverment to release the employees of TOLO News, otherwise such behavior and detention of journalists restrict the flow of information and media activities and causes fear among the journalists and media workers.
The news comes as Taliban’s intellegence agency known as Istikhbarat arrested TOLO News head Khpolwak Sapai, anchor Bahram Aman, and the channel’s legal advisor named Nafi Khaliq.
On the other hand, Lotfullah Najafizada, former head of TOLO News tweeted that Mr. Sapai and the legal advisor were released after questioning, but Mr. Aman was kept in Taliban’s custody.
