The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) releasing a report expressed its concerns over the situation of mothers in Afghanistan, and added this country has one of the highest maternal death rates in the Asia.
According to this report the death toll is 638 per 100,000 live births.
“The situation is expected to get worse without timely and appropriate interventions for maternal health,” the UNFPA said.
UNFPA appealed for $250 million funding to sustain humanitarian response and reach more Afghans in need.
The officials of this organization said that ongoing crisis in Afghanistan has impacted the women a lot.
The aim of the appeal has said to address the reproductive health and protection needs of 9.3 million Afghans, including 2.2 million women of child-bearing age, 2.3 million adolescents, and 289,000 women expected to give birth during the year.
The news comes as after Taliban’s domination the situation in Afghanistan worsened, and some people are concerned about this issue.
