Taliban consider the concerns of the UNSC regarding women’s rights ‘unfounded’

The Taliban ministry of foreign affairs releasing a statement stated that the concerns raised in the UNSC Declaration on women’s rights ‘unfounded.’

“Whilst the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan welcomes decision by UNSC member states on the revival of Afghanistan’s banking and financial systems and humanitarian aid to the Afghan people, viewing it as a vital step toward assisting the Afghan people- it once again calls on the United States of America to unconditionally release Afghanistan’s assets and lift all economic sanctions,” the statement added.

Foreign ministry of Taliban called the concerns of UNSC Declaration on women’s rights ‘unfounded’ and underlined that the Taliban government is committed to ensuring rights of women, children, minorities within religious and cultural framework.

“Since the people of Afghanistan are predominantly Muslim, the Afghan government considers the observance of Islamic hijab to be in line with the religious and culture practices of society and aspirations of majority of Afghan women, and stresses that nothing has been imposed on the Afghan people that runs counter to the religious and cultural beliefs of the Islamic society,” the statement reiterated.

The ministry underscored that Taliban believe in resolving problems through dialogue, and they expect the world to discern objective realities of Afghan society, and must not pass verdicts based on ‘malicious and antagonist’ reporting of some media outlets or ‘propaganda’ by Taliban’s opposition.

The news comes as members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) called on Taliban officials to “swiftly reverse” policies and practices that strict the human rights and freedoms of women and girls.
