Abolfazl Zohrevand, Iran’s former ambassador to Afghanistan, in an interview with Entekhab News Agency said that the Taliban are using their bargining chip including the Hirmand water rights issue and closing Dowqarun border-crossing.
He referring to the recent clashes between the Taliban and the Iranian border police called1 it a serious issue saying that the people must be alerted.
Zohrevand added that worrying issues are going on between Iran and Afghanistan, considering the Americans interefernce to the issues of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the clash may begin under any pretext.
According to Zohrevand yesterday’s fighting has raised the alarm about the engagement with the Taliban, adding that the Taliban acquisition of water and causing tension on the border will have dangerous dimentions on the future of engagement with them.
He called the Taliban as a threat to China and Russia.
Mr. Zohrevand said that Taliban are an anti-security component in the region, and no country has recognized them as well as Americans consider them as geopolitical asset.
Former Iranian ambassador said that Iran must know its components of power in the region, adding that neither fighting against the Taliban nor talking to the Americans is useful.
According to him the US is not in a good position in the region, and for its presence in the region will try to do anything.
The news comes as two Iranian border guards and a Taliban fighter killed in Nimruz fighting agains each others yesterday.
