Time for practical steps, including reinstating the travel ban on Taliban leaders: Barr

by Aamaj News

Associate director of the women’s rights division at Human Rights Watch, Heather Barr, urged reinstating travel ban on Taliban leaders.

“It’s time for much more active and practical steps, including reinstating the travel ban,” Barr tweeted reacting to the statement of the UNSC regarding humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

Ms Barr stated that the “urgent UN Security Council statement is good news, at a time when Afghanistan risks being forgotten.”

Members of the UNSC releasing a joint statement expressed their “deep concern” over humanitarian situation and restrictions on women and girls’ rights and fundamental freedoms in Afghanistan.

They urged the Taliban to “swiftly reverse” policies and practices that restrict human rights and freedoms of women and girls in Afghanistan.
