Germany reacted to new media guidelines of Taliban saying that this move of them contradicts their commitments to international community.

On Thursday, November 25 German Foreign Office in a tweet expressed its concerns about new media guidelines issued by Taliban in Afghanistan, saying that this move contradicts Taliban’s commitments to international community, and thereby risks undermining freedom of the press.

“In our view this is not suitable for strengthening trust in the de facto authorities. We addressed our concerns in our contacts with the de facto authorities. We remain clear that we will judge the Taliban by their deeds, not their words,” German Foreign Office said.

Earlier Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said that after Taliban’s domination all achievements of past 20 years in the field of freedom of speech and media has been ruined, or facing extreme difficulties.

Taliban in their recent eight-clause decree ordered officials of TV channels to refrain from broadcasting TV series and movies in which women have role-played, and comedy programs which reveal the defects of government must be banned.
