Yesterday, Charge d’Affaires of Afghansitan Permanent Mission to the UN, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, said that the victims of 9/11 are owed justice and rightful compensation, but the Afghan people should not be the ones who pay the price.
He raised the issue in the Southern District Court of New York State to protect Afghanistan’s $3.5 billion assets, which are being sued by a number of families of 9/11 victims.
“These funds remain the property of the Afghan people, who are its rightful owners. No Afghan involved in the 9/11 attacks, and they do not bear any legal or moral responsibility for them,” Faiq said.
Mr Faiq’s remarks come as the US Supreme Court is going to decide about the fate of $3.5 billion’s claim for compensation for some of the families of 9/11 victims.
Earlier on February the US government by order of president Biden decided to allocate $3.5 billion in benefit of Afghanistan’s people, and added that the court will decide on other $3.5 billion.
The US froze $10 billion of Afghan assets after Taliban’s domination.
