رویترز گزارش داده که سردی هوا تلاش‌ها برای یافتن بازمانده‌‌گان را با مشکل مواجه ساخته است.
رجب طیب اردوغان، رییس‌‌جمهور ترکیه، در پی این حادثه مرگبار یک هفته را عزای عمومی اعلام کرده است.
این زمینلرزه با بزرگی ۷.۸ درجه ریشتر روز (دوشنبه، ۶ فبروی) مناطق جنوب شرق ترکیه و شمال سوریه را لرزاند.
پس از آن بعداز ظهر همان روز زلزله دیگری با قدرت ۷.۵ درجه ریشتر رخ داد که آمار قربانیان را بیش از حد بالا برد.
در همین حال اردوغان گفته است که از ۴۵ کشور جهان برای رسیده‌گی به آسیب‌دیده‌گان پیشنهاد کمک دریافت کرده است.
رویترز در گزارشی نوشته است که تلفات زمین‌لرزه‌های روز دوشنبه بالاترین آمار تلفات زمینلرزه در ترکیه از سال ۱۹۹۹ است، زمانی که زمین‌لرزه‌ای با شدت مشابه منطقه‌ی پرجمعیت شرق دریای مرمره در نزدیکی استانبول را ویران کرد و بیش از ۱۷۰۰۰ کُشته برجای گذاشت.
