نورالدین، یکی از باشنده‌گان ولایت هرات که برای نجات خانواده‌ی خود عضو از بدن‌اش را قربانی کرده در گفت‌وگو با خبرگزاری فرانسه گفته است: «من مجبور شدم این‌کار را به‌خاطر فرزندانم انجام دهم، چون من هیچ گزینه‌ای دیگری نداشتم.»
با این حال شماری از آگاهان طب در افغانستان این عمل را غیرقانونی می‌دانند.
محمد بصیر عثمانی، یک تَن از جراحان شفاخانه‌ی ولایت هرات به خبرگزاری فرانسه گفت: «ما هرگز بررسی نکرده‌ایم که بیمار یا اهدا کننده از کجا آمده است یا چگونه است، این کار ما نیست.»
در همین حال، در این گزارش آمده است که مقام‌های حکومت طالبان برای اظهار نظر در این مورد پاسخ نداده‌اند.
