دیدبان حقوق بشر با ابراز نگرانی شدید از افزایش بازداشت‌های خودسرانه‌ی طالبان در افغانستان، گفته که این گروه سرکوب فعالان مدنی را به گونه‌ی فزاینده‌ای گسترش داده‌اند.
دیدبان حقوق بشر سازمان ملل روز گذشته (چهارشنبه) در بیانیه با اشاره بازداشت‌های های خودسرانه طالبان گفته است که آنان به طور فزاینده‌ای منتقدان خود از جمله فعالان جامعه مدنی، مدافعان حقوق بشر و زنان معترض را هدف قرار داده‌اند.
در این بیانیه آمده است که با محدودیت‌های شدید طالبان بر رسانه‌ها بسیاری از دست‌گیری‌های فعالان به‌ویژه در مناطق دورافتاده‌تر افغانستان گزارش نمی‌شوند. به باور این نهاد طالبان بر این باور اند که گرفتاری همه منتقدان راهی برای مشروعیت سیاسی است.
در همین حال فرشته عباس، از پژوهش‌گران سازمان دیدبان حقوق بشر در صحبت با الکساندرا، همسر مرتضی بهبودی، خبرنگار فرانسوی – افغانی‌الاصل گفته است قضیه این خبرنگار غیرمعمول نیست.
همسر آقای بهبودی گفته است روزنامه‌نگاران، فعالان، معترضان، یا دیگرانی که به طور مسالمت‌آمیز برای یک افغانستان بهتر کار می‌کنند «چرا باید در زندان‌ها به سر می‌برند؟»
در بیانیه‌ای دیدبان حقوق بشر سازمان تأکید شده است که دیپلمات‌های خارجی، مقام سازمان ملل و نمایندگان سازمان‌های بین‌المللی در گفت‌وگو با طالبان باید برای رهبری این گروه روشن کنند که این توقیف‌ها و بازداشت‌های خودسرانه فقط آینده افغانستان را به «خطر» می‌اندازد.
