روبرت هابک، وزیر اقتصاد آلمان صبح (یک‌شنبه ۲۰ مارچ) در دوحه به دیدار امیر قطر رفت. موضوعی محوری سفر هابک، نیاز آلمان به گاز طبیعی مایع و تأمین احتمالی آن از طریق قطر است.
آلمان در صدد است وابسته‌گی خود به گاز روسیه را هرچه سریع‌تر کاهش دهد. قطر یکی از بزرگ‌ترین صادرکنندگان «ال‌ان‌جی» در جهان است اما مقصد این صادرات عمدتا کشورهای آسیایی هستند و انتقال گاز برای آلمان هزینه‌ی هنگفت خواهد داشت.
وزیر اقتصاد آلمان پس از قطر به امارات متحده‌‌ی عربی هم سفر خواهد کرد. این سفر بخشی از تلاش برای جایگزین کردن گاز مصرفی آلمان است که از سوی روسیه تأمین می‌شود.
روبرت هابک پیش از سفر خود به رادیو سراسری آلمان (دویچلند فونک) گفت: «نمی‌تواند تضمینی بدهد که گاز مورد نیاز آلمان در سال آینده به‌طور کامل تضمین شود.»
هابک با ابراز نگرانی در این مورد گفت: «این بدان معناست که اگر تا زمستان آینده گاز بیش‌تری دریافت نکنیم و اتصالات عرضه از روسیه قطع شود، گاز کافی برای گرم نگه‌داشتن تمام خانه‌ها و فعال نگه‌داشتن تمام صنایع را نخواهیم داشت.»
این در حالی‌ست که کمیسیون اروپا طرحی را ارائه داده که اعضای این اتحادیه تا سال ۲۰۲۷ به نفت روسیه نیز محتاج نباشند.
پس از حمله‌ی روسیه به اوکراین و تحریم این کشور از سوی غرب، کشورهای اروپایی وابسته به گاز روسیه به دنبال بدیل برآمده‌اند.
پیش از این وزیر خارجه‌ی آلمان و بوریس جانسون، نخست‌وزیر بریتانیا نیز به‌خاطر صحبت روی موضوعات تولید انرژی به خاورمیانه سفر کرده بودند.
