EIU declared Afghanistan as the most undemocratic country in the world

by Aamaj News

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Democracy Index in its most recent classification of democratic and undemocratic countries around the world, reported that swift rise of the Taliban following the chaotic US withdrawal last summer, changed Afghansitan into an undemocratic country around the globe.

According to annual global state of democracy declared by EIU, Afghanistan under the rule of Taliban beating Myanmar and North Korea to the bottom spot, has officially became the most undemocratic country of the globe.

According to EIU the United Kingdom fell two places, from 16 to 18, while the US dropped one place, from 25 to 26, in the list the main cause thought to be the failure of their policies towards Afghanistan.

European northern countries as Norway, New Zealand, Finland and Sweden are at the top of the list as the most democratic countries of the world.

The EIU awards 167 countries a score out of 10 based on their performance in electoral process and pluralism, the functioning of government, political participation, democratic political culture and civil liberties.

According to this report restrictions of citizens rights, lack of women’s political participation and election, as well as gender segregation are the main causes that Afghanistan got this position in global democracy rankings.

According to EIU just 6.4 percent of the world’s population enjoy a full democracy, while more than a third live under full authoritarian rule.
