The abolition of AIHRC is a massive setback: Richard Bennett

by Aamaj News

The UN special rapporteur, Richard Bennett, said that the abolition of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) is a massive setback.

“An independent domestic mechanism to monitor and promote human rights and receive complaints is critical for human rights protection in Afghanistan. Following up with de facto authorities,” he added.

The Taliban government issuing an order dissolved several institutions of former government.

It is mentionable that they dissolved the Human Rights Commissions, Commission for Oversight and Implementation of the Constitution, the National Reconciliation Council, the National Security Council, and the secretariats of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Richard Bennett is currently in a 10-day in Afghanistan.
