Taliban lack legitimacy, an inclusive govt must be formed: Declaration of Vienna Conference

Participants of Vienna Conference on Afghanistan at the end of the conference at their declaration requested the UN to monitor the implemention of restrictions against the Taliban, and called for formation of an inclusive government.

They added that the Taliban lack internal and international legitimacy, and the current critical situation is not acceptable for the people in Afghanistan, the region and the world.

They called the Taliban government as the “Taliban regime” which has isolated Afghanistan, constantly violated human rights and systematically excluded women.

“We support the resistance of the people of Afghanistan in order to realize their legitimate and rightful demands,” the declaration reads. “We support the historical and rightful struggle of the heroic woman of Afghanistan.”

They stressed on a regional consensus not to recognize the Taliban until the formation of a legitimate government based on people’s will.

Vienna Conference started on September 15 in the capital of Austria and today it ended. The Austrian Institute of International Affairs hosted it.
